Lake Ontario staging harbour Chinooks.
Posted on September 22nd, 2022Lake Ontario Chinook Salmon anglers are taking advantage of salmon staging at most of our harbour mouths. Little rain and low tributary conditions have forced many salmon to congregate at the mouth of Bownmanvile Creek to the Ganaraska River. Many anglers are taking advantage of excellent night-time fishing from shore casting glow-in-the-dark spoons. Others have been taking advantage of any short water level increases from rain and catching fish in the lower stretches of these same tributaries.Boat anglers are enjoying excellent success trolling in less than 50’ of water using downriggers and especially Dipsey Divers.

Michael Kumar has been doing well fishing flashers and cut-bait heads and trolling at 2.8-3mph weaving in and around the harbour mouth areas.

The fishing has been so hot that double and triple-header hook-ups have been common. This hot fishing will remain good until we get heavy rains and many of the staging salmon will head to their spawning grounds.
