While most anglers trolling Lake Ontario for Chinook Salmon and a mix of brown and lake trout, some are also catching perfect eating-size Coho salmon & some real trophies.
Captain Aldo Nava, www.niagarafishingadventures.com , has been catching them all season long mostly trolling spoons off downriggers and Luhr Jensen Dispsey Divers. Coho Salmon fight hard. Just look at the damage the above Coho did to the fluttering spoon!!
Some anglers have a hard time differentiating between Chinook & Coho salmon. Two good ID features are:
-Chinook have totally black mouths/Coho have black & white mouths
-Chinooks have spots all over their tail/Coho have spots normally only on the top half or third of their tail.
