We are getting reports that anglers taking advantage of no-ice conditions in Lake Ontario are hooking brown trout just flat-line trolling near the harbor mouths.
In some tributaries large “feeding” browns are also being caught mixed in with steelhead. Brian Przybyl caught this trophy fishing a 1/4 oz jig and Gulp action tail about 3′ under his float. Just goes to show you that the browns are definitely feeding. With the Lower Niagara river clearing up from strong winds look for feeding steelhead and browns at the Whirlpool and below the Queenston, ON bridge. This is a good time of the year to fish streamer-flies, live bait fish, & plastic minnows.
