Simeon Kubassek sent us the shots of a couple of trophy walleye he recently caught while fishing Lake of the Woods, ON. Fall is one of the best times to catch trophy fish there and the surrounding lakes both by jigging & fishing live bait rigs on the bottom.
Lake of the Woods is large laying right on the US/Canada border. While walleye can be caught almost anywhere on the lake, the hot areas are the north section of the lake in the Kenora, ON area stretch, and the large bay south of Big & Bigsby Islands. As temperatures continue to fall, the walleye will be stacking-up off points, reefs and bar in water as deeper as 40′. Best ways to catch them is by either fishing larger jigheads/bait combination, or sinking swim-baits like the Lunker City Swim Fish & Shaker action-tail grubs.
