Mild daily temperatures & melting snow run-off is continuing to allow steelheaders to fish many Great Lakes tributaries. Some smaller tributaries are frozen-over, but larger ones have significant open-water allowing anglers to use a variety of fishing techniques.
Some of the best winter fishing can happen after 10am when conditions warm-up and steelhead become more active. A good strategy to use on these cold-water fish is to change up from drifting roe bags to casting lures like a spoon, Vibrax spinner or small Luhr Jensen Kwikfish. Keep your leaders light for more strikes!
