Lake Erie, ON Trout Opening Weekend Tributary Update
Posted on April 27th, 2009
- Joe Kubassek shows off one of the many “post-spawned” female migratory rainbow trout he caught over the weekend.
Joe Kubassek reports: Lake Erie tributary levels are good, but many of the migratory rainbow trout spawned early and most of the fish have dropped-back to the lower-sections of tributaries on their way to back to Lake Erie. Most of the fish caught this weekend were post-spawned fish that have already reverted back to their silver, Great Lakes color and within a week or two most of these fish will be suspended and feeding heavily in the open lake. Anglers caught most of their fish either bottom-bouncing or fishing a float & spawn sack. If you are planning on fishing any of the Lake Erie tributaries this week, make sure to use the lightest/clearest line and also use stealth when approaching likely fish-holding runs and pools so that you don’t spook fish.
