Lake Erie, ON Smallmouth Bass in shallow water.

Posted on September 14th, 2010

[singlepic id=1316 w=320 h=240 float=]Smallies in Lake Erie are still in their summer pattern and some of the best fishing is in water around 10′ deep.  Most anlgers are used to catching smallies in Sept. in 20-40′ of water in Lake Erie, but this season those depths are producing mostly small fish under 2 lb..  Shallower water is producing fish in the 3-4 lb. range.  Shallow running crankbaits, Rapala Husky Jerk, X-Rap, Max Rap and soft-plastic Jerkbiats have been working well.  Take advantage of the shallows and the decent weather before the bigger bass move off-shore and the weather get’s more unpredictable.
