I was out today to check out the near-shore reefs on the NY side of Lake Erie, just west of Buffalo, NY and fished water depths from 25 to 7′ depths.  Looks like the trophy smallouth bass are starting to make their transition from deeper water to the shallows.   The first smallmouth I hooked hit a new Rapala DT15 Flat (trolling series).  I was working my way to a reef and was cranking in water depth from 25-15′.  The second fish was caught by my daughter fishing a 3/8 oz. jighead/4″ tube in the same area.  All of the fish we hooked were right on the break, but not visible.  We used 15 lb. test Rapala Titanium Braid with Rapala 12 lb. test fluorocarbon leaders and it was the right combination to feel every hit.
