We all know that Lake Erie is one of the world top walleye fishery and forecasts for 2019 are looking really good. How good? Authorities are saying that it will be the best walleye fishing in 20 yrs.! In 2018 the Lake Erie walleye population was estimated at being around 41-million. For 2019 anglers will mostly encounter walleye ranging from 17-22 inches from the 2014 and 2015 year classes. Most likely there will also be a large number of smaller walleye from the 2018 season caught. We encourage you to handle those smaller walleye as little as possible and release them unharmed to grow.
While the largest population of walleye use the western-end of the lake at the Pennsylvania, Ohio, Michigan waters, we will also experience excellent fishing in the central and eastern area. Can’t wait until the open-water season opens!
