Lake Dalrymple Report! – my personal best Smallmouth Bass
Posted on October 4th, 2010On the weekend I decided to do some fishing on Lake Dalrymple. I had a couple of friends join me from Hamilton Glenn and Jim along with my son. We fished Sat. and Sunday with modest success (until mid afternoon on the Sunday). This is when I landed with the help of my son (who skillfully netted my fish) my personal “best ever” smallmouth bass. The fish was 19 1/2 inches in length and I estimated the weight of the fish to be 6lbs. My previous largest smallmouth bass was caught several years ago on Lake Dalrymple this fish weighed 5 3/4 lbs and measured 19″ in length.
The fish took a long run from the boat after it hit pulling drag off my reel, and I wondered if I might have hooked into a Muskie. After a very spirited fight the fish approached the boat and I thought at first I had hooked a very good size largemouth bass it wasn’t until we had the fish in the Lucky Strike rubber net that I realized the fish was a smallmouth bass of great size! The fish hammered a small minnow on a three way swivel rig.
Our group stayed comfrtably in Orillia at The Comfort Inn, http://WWW.COMFORTINNORILLIA.COM
I would also like to thank my pals Jim and Glenn for picking up our bait at Jacobs Bait near Orillia
