I drove down to the Queenston, ON boat launch on the Lower Nigara River mid-day today to see if any anglers were fishing for smelt. Thre were a couple of people already staking their night-time spots at noon! Every once and a while a school of smelt would cruise right by the dock, but heavy boat traffic scared them away. To my surprise, the water had cleared up quite a bit and you could see the bottom right off the dock. There were many anglers going out searching for rainbow and browns.
I saw Kris Kvetko fishing from shore again and I went up to see how he was doing. He had been there since early morning and had landed 2-5/6lb. rainbows. While I was there Kris hooked a nice male rainbow that looked about 12 lb. After a long fight Kris landed the fish. He caught his fish using a 4″ streamer fly with a Lil’Corky drifter.
