Kayak Walleye TV show on Welland River, ON.

[nggallery id=555]We had an excellent morning to shoot a Walleye Kayaking show on the Welland River, ON.  We started around 8am and to our surprise when we got on the water, the current was flowing up the river, not down to the Niagara River.  Fishing was slow for the first hour, but as soon as the current reversed to it’s normal flow, we started catching fish.  We fished out of the Ocean Kayak and this time I brought my pup Mulligan to keep me company.  She wore her new life jacket and had a great time!!  I caught all of my fish casting the Rapala Dives-To 7 Flat in the silver color.  My choice of gear for the day was the Rapala Shift baitcasting and spinning outfits loaded with Sufix 832, 10 lb. test braid, and the new Lucky Strike compact Live Release Basket Net with an expendable handle.  I located structure breaks between 4-12′ of water using the Humminbird 385ci sonar that comes as an option on the “angler” model of Ocean Kayak.  The 385ci is a color unit with a build-in antenna which means you can use hydrographic chart cards to see where you are on the body of water you are fishing.

This show has excellent tips on locating and catching river Walleye.  Make sure to see it when it airs in our new Canadian Sportfishing TV series.
