Kawartha panfish in the weeds.
Posted on August 8th, 2017Hot days of summer have produced maximum aquatic weed growth that is attracting lots of nice sized panfish to feed in and around the weeds. They can be found as shallow as as 2-3′ and as deep as 12′.
When water temps are warm and their favorite food scattered throughout the weeds the only challenge is finding weed beds holding feeding panfish. Ed Dolstra has been targeting them using live bait and is catching a mix of jumbo perch and crappie. Fishing a slip-bobber and 1/2 nightcrawler 1-2′ off the bottom is a good start to locate them. Once you find a bunch you can switch to a 1/16 or 1/8 oz. jighead + 1-2″ plastic grub like the Lunker City Hellgies and fool the larger panfish into feeding.
