Kawartha Lakes, ON Panfish.

Posted on June 20th, 2020

Not everyone is chasing gamefish in Ontario. Our good friend Karl Kuster confirms that the Kawartha Lakes, ON are producing good number of Bluegill with a mix of Crappie.

Karl was out with a couple of friends and fished 5-7′ water around weeds to catch these nice-size and very tasty panfish.

In most of our southern Ontario lakes there are healthy populations of Bluefill, Pumkinseed, Rock Bass, Perch and Crappie. The key is locating them as the water gets warmer and weeds come up. Most people can catch small panifish, but to find a “honey-hole” of good-size panfish means a very tasty fish fry.

The Fishing Compete Lil’ Fry measuring at 2″ in length is deadly fished on a 1/16 or 1/8 jighead under a sensitive float for all the above.
