Just shot a Jumbo Perch show on the Lower Niagara River, ON.
Posted on November 4th, 2010[nggallery id=348]Even though it rained all morning, we were still blessed to shoot a very entertaining jumbo perch TV show on the lower Niagara River, ON. We started off by doing a segment catching minnows using a dip net and than headed down-river to a popular fall jumbo perch spot. My pup Mulligan joined me, but got wet quickly and decided to sleep under my raincoat. The crew and I stayed tough and it payed-off. We anchored the G3 in 18-24′ of water right on a current break on the Canadian side of the river. I stared off fishing a custom made “drop-shot” tandam rig on the bottom with live minnows. I was catching perch on every drop so next I decided to fish a W3 Jigging Rapala near the bottom. Again I caught lot’s of jumbo perch. Next I fished a 1/8 & a 1/4 oz. Blue Fox Flash Spoon on the bottom and caught some of the largest fish of the day. And, lastly I fished a 3″ streamer fly on a drop-shot rig. This show has lot’s of excellent panfishing tips to picking the right presentation to using a special in-line “dropper-tippet” to create a very effective drop-shot rig. I used the Rapala F2 and Avantis ultralights rigged with ultralight Rapala reels and loaded with the new Sufix 832 braid. The fishing was so hot we started filming at 8am and were off the water by 12noon. Tomorrow it’s back to Port Dalhousie drifting yarn-flies for trophy browns.
