Jumbo Port Colborne, ON, Lake Erie Perch in 65′ of water.
Posted on October 19th, 2010[nggallery id=337]I had the chance to fish for jumbo Lake Erie perch this morning with my good friend Kam Anderson. We headed out around 6:30am this morning in hopes of getting at least 3-hrs. of fishing in before the predicted west winds would blow up to 20km/hr. We ended up picking up our minnnows at Erie Tracker in Port Colborne, ON, but to our disappointment all of the minnows were dead. So, we fished with dead minnows. We travelled about 4 miles out to 65′ of water and started marking baitfish schools and feeding jumbo perch within the first 1/2 hr. We fished “pickerel-rigs” with 3/8 & 1/2 oz. bell-sinkers and dead minnows for bait right on the bottom. We managed to land about 2 dozen jumbo perch which made for two tasty meals. Our special guest for the day was our new female pup, Mulligan a mix between black lab and border collie. This was Mulligans second fishing outing. On Saturday we were looking for Chinook Salmon in Bronte Creek. Expect to see Mulligan in many of the future TV shows since she loves to be on the water ( and on the golf course!!!).
