January steelhead action, ON.

Posted on January 31st, 2017

Our interesting southern Ontario winter temperatures have given both ice anglers and steelheaders opportunities to hit the hard and soft water. Due to occasional “thaws” and temps in the 5-10C range many of the lower sections of Lake Ontario tributaries have had open water stretches where anglers have been able to target steelhead both on the Ontario and NY side of Lake Ontario.

Richard Somerville who is normally on the ice chasing walleye with his ATV has had several opportunities to fish eastern Lake Ontario tributaries with good success. He has been switching it up from drifting jig and jig-flies to roe bags and catching some real trophies!
