As water temps drop and bass start to move to slightly deeper water they start looking for schools of baitfish that are also migrating off-shore. This is an excellent time to locate “schooling” smallmouth and largemouth bass that can be easily caught using a “finesse” presentation.
This is where the Fishing Complete “Italo’s Minnow” works great either fished on a jighead or with a drop-shot rig. No need to fish it aggressively, just twitch and shake it gently and draw those hungry bass in for the attack.
Anglers are doing well fishing in the Kawartha’s working the first shoreline depth break where there is a mix of rocks/weeds. Lake Erie anglers are catching nice size smallmouth around rock-piles and reefs in 20-13′ water. Some of the smallmouth bass there are already suspending and feeding on schools of open-water baitfish.
