I checked-out the perch fishing along the Upper Niagara River and can confirm that there are plenty of Emerald Shiners in the Upper River at Fort Erie, ON. The jumbo perch have been feeding on them for the last several weeks. Shore anglers fishing the Fort Erie, ON stretch from shore are doing well using “pickerel-rigs” and fishing small minnows with a 1/2 oz. bell-sinker, right on the bottom in 12-20′ of water. If you are planning on heading out, the best fishing is early morning, 5-9am, and again in the afternoon. If you have a minnow net, you can catch your baitfish right off the dock at the Fort Erie, ON boat launch.
On this weeks TSN program join Italo, Jason & Tyler Howick as they take you fishing for trophy channel catfish in one of the many Lake Erie, ON tributaries. You’ll learn excellent tips on using the right rods, reels, line and terminal tackle to intercept migrating channel catfish. While most anglers use bottom-fishing techniques to catch catfish, on this week’s show you will learn how to use a “slip-bobber” rig to catch channel catfish using large chunks of baitfish.
Walleye fishing is getting more consistent on the Detroit River. The Kubasseks had a chance to fish the La Salle, ON stretch of the Detroit River and had good fishing jigging with 1/2 jighead & 4″ brown plastic worms righ on the bottom. Due to strong winds this spring, the Detroit River has been turbid and the fishing has been tough. Water conditions have improved greatly over the last 2-weeks and the fishing is getting better daily. We will be filming a walleye show there the end of this month out of the La Salle, ON boat launch. If you are planning a trip to the Detroit River for walleye, the last week in May should be excellent!
