If you’ve targeted pike through the ice, you know that fishing a larger live baitfish (where permitted), or fishing “dead-bait”, and even a ‘cut-bait” just off the bottom can work great to catch these great gamefish.
Only problem is that pike often take a bait and take a while to turn it around and eat it. So, you either wait, especially if you are using a tip-up, or take your chances setting the hook too early. If you let it eat the bait, than it might be hooked too deep and not be in good shape if you were planning on releasing your catch.
With Brian’s “quick-strike” rig, the hooks can be set a distance apart enabling for a quick and “lip-hooked” fish. Also, the colorful blades help attract pike from a distance and they zero-in on the blades when striking the bait.
