Husky Jerk cold-water pike.
Posted on May 25th, 2016People ask me all the time, “What is the best lure to use in the spring & fall for pike?” My answer always is the Rapala #14 Husky Jerk! It is the right length, casts well, has rattles, rises slowly allowing you to “twitch-it” in the strike zone.
When I fish it early & late in the year during colder-water periods, I definitely “twitch” it short snaps of my rod (around 1′ strokes), instead of “slashing” it with long stokes. I always maintain direct line to the lure (minimal slack-line inbetween twitches), which usually produces results!
