Hungry Post-Spawn Walleye.

Posted on May 31st, 2016

Now is the time to capitalize on trophy walleye fishing for post-spawn big females that are on the prowl. Most of the lager female walleye will be dispersing in the lakes in search of large baitfish schools. If you are looking for a trophy walleye, you may get it shallower, but odds are they are already heading to deeper water.

Having an accurate fishfinder like the Raymarine HybridTouch that shows you big walleye laying on the bottom, as in the screen-grab above, makes it easy to stay on top of the them and work a jig right in front of them.

This is an excellent time to jig for them using a swim-bait like the Lunker City Fin-S-Fish or Shaker grub in the 4′ length. These soft-plastic fish look and swim more realistic than a live fish!!

Think this walleye though he was getting a nice meal?
