Hay Bay Area Fishing Report – May long weekend
Posted on May 26th, 2009Mark reported:
We fished the edges of pionts and had some luck with pickerel (smaller) and many perch (some monsters) There is a mid channel 10′ shallow hump running about 1km doen the middle of the bay, many others fished this drift. The weather made it difficult as it was very windy. We used mainly worm harnesses, either bottom bouncing or with 3 split shot.
We caught 12 pickerel over three days and many more perch. We trolled where possible but had to eventually drift with the trolling motor in reverse to slow down as the wind was reaping havoc with our efforts. One very still night without a nibble, varied depth and bait used while trolling. We never fished the river part but probably should have. Storm front and cold may have ruined our chances a bit. We felt beat up after each days efforts. The boat got a bit scuffed on the dock one stormy night as a bumper broke off.
