Gulf of Mexico, Fl Almaco Jacks.

Posted on July 24th, 2019

We recently filmed a Here’s the Catch! saltwater TV show in Florida’s Gulf waters where we targeted a specific species of fish called an Almaco Jack. Most people are familiar with Jack Trevally or Giant Trevally but now with the Almaco Jack. This fish looks like an Amberjack and unlike the Jack Trevally has beautiful white meat and is delicious eating.

Almaco’s usually suspend in the water column and feed over reefs in deeper water. Capt. Tyler Degraff who operates Always & Forever Charters took us right to the spot in about 180′ of water where we literally hooked up on Almaco’s on every drip speed-jigging Williamson jigging lures. Only problem we had that as soon as we started fighting a Jack large Bull Sharks would grab them. The sharks got their share, but we were also do a very exciting Almaco TV show!
