Gulf of Mexico Amberjack.
Posted on July 13th, 2016I had a chance to take Michael Kumar fishing for his first time out in the Gulf of Mexico and we had a blast. We decided to catch some live baitfish using a Sabiki rig and than headed off-shore to the 60′ depth to free-line those baitfish on the surface for some trophy off-shore fish.
We found an area where we marked schools of suspended baitfish and some gamefish with our Raymarine HybridTouch DownVision mode and at the same time spotted large fish chasing baitfish on the surface and feeding on them. We immediately hooked on live “green back” baitfish and Michael had the first fish on in less than 5 min.
The action was steady and we landed 3-nice Amberjacks that fought well and were released quickly.
Michael even landed a “handable-shark” which he caught using the Rapala Speed Jigging Rod and Rapala R-Type Heavy Duty Spinning Reel loaded with Sufix 832, 65 lb. braid. Tomorrow we are planning to target Redfish on the flats….making the most of hot weather and hot fishing!
