We had fun catching grouper using our Rapala freshwater rods in about 30′ of water and fishing jigs & vertical jigging spoons near the bottom. I started off by landing the first grouper which hit while I was targeting smaller baitfish.
Next, Barb dropped her spoon down to the bottom and landed another nice grouper. Grouper are excellent eating, but ours were released. These fish usually take your lure or bait and head right for structure along the bottom, often breaking the line. They are excellent sport and are often mixed-in with other saltwater bottom fish!
