Took a break from steelheading and headed out with my good friend and neighbor Bill Henry to try some jigging in the eastern-end of Lake Erie, NY for some trophy post-spawn walleye.
Conditions were not the best since our morning started off at -2C with clear, bright sunny skies and winds that were going to pick-up to 15km/hr.
We were pleasantly surprised when my first walleye turned out to be a 30″ prime fish that hit a 3/8 oz. jighead rigged with a 4 1/2″ plastic minnow grub. My outfit for the outing was the top of the line Rapala Concept TI spinning rod and reel loaded with Sufix832 braid.
Both Bill Henry and I ended up hooking 2-walleye each and they were all quality fish rainging in size form 27-30″. They were in-haling our jigs in 30′ of water and bull-dogged fought all the way to the surface.
