Great Lakes Laker action.
Posted on August 21st, 2016We are truly blessed in southern Ontario that we can enjoy such awesome Great Lakes trout and salmon action. I hope we don’t take it for granted that we can launch even out of the GTA and within minutes either hook trophy Chinook, coho and Atlantic salmon, rainbow trout and some huge lakers all summer long.
Aldo Nava of www.niagarafishingadventures.com knows this well and almost daily treats his guests to battle at least a few trophy lakers.
Lakers can be hooked trolling at all depths, but one of the most consistent depths to find them is near the bottom in water less than 120′ deep. A lot of anglers I know, including myself will actually “bounce” our cannon-balls right on the bottom every 3-5 seconds to make sure we are right there.
Even though lakers can be caught on everything from fluttering spoons, body-baits, flashers & flies, & cut bait rigs, many of us have found that trolling a “gang-troll” behind the cannon-ball and than having a wobbling or spinning plug at the end works really well. The Spin-N-Glow and the Arashi Silent Square work real well for this very specific Lake Ontario Lake Trout presentation!
