Grand River, ON Channel Catfish Update.
Posted on April 19th, 2010Tyler and Jason Howick report. We finally decided to pull our 14.5 ft aluminum boat out of hibernation and travel to the Grand River in Dunnville, Ontario for some monster channel cats. We were faced with cold front conditions and high winds with some rain and cooler temps. Managed to land 5 catfish, lost one and missed 4 strikes. Biggest fish of the day was 17 lbs followed by a 16, 14 and two smaller fish.

We were fishing shoreline breaks ranging from 8-15 feet of water, double anchored from bow and stern. Moving around a lot we fished from the mouth of Lake Erie to the dam in Dunnville, ON. We used 7ft medium heavy baitcasting outfits spooled with 50 lb braided line with slip sinker rigs using 2-3 oz egg sinkers and 3/0 to 4/0 offset octopus hooks. Hooks were baited with fresh cut-bait – mainly sucker, chub and shiner.
