So many anglers put their noses up when they see they hooked a freshwater drum while targetting other species but if you’re like me and many of my friends, we don’t mind catching & releasing them at all.
Jeff Wood took his brother Brad Wood out in less then favorable fishing conditions when bass and walleye were tough to hook, but Brad did manage to catch some trophy Freshwater Drum and he enjoyed them all. Big drum hit and fight hard and I think they’re beautiful reminding me much of saltwater Black Drum.
While I have caught Freshwater Drum on a variety of lures I find that jigging in fast water produces most of our fish and some really big ones.
They love the vibrations the Lunker City Shaker puts out fished either on a 1/4 or 3/8 oz. jighead. We fish the Shakers like we were targeting walleye right along the bottom and that’s how we hook some of our biggest drum!
