Get ready it’s Crappie fishing time.

Ontario panfish anglers will be happy to hear that Crappie are stating to move shallower into warm water along many shorelines.

Our good friend Josh Westerink has been fishing the Kawartha Lakes, ON and enjoying solitude and catching some nice Crappie.

Ultralight outfits are definitely an asset loaded with 4 lb. test and an ultralight float that will handle a 1/16-1/8 oz. jig and 1-2 1/2″ plastic grub.

The most popular plastic grubs for bot bigger Crappie, Bluegill, Pumpkinseed, Rockbass and Perch are the Fishing Compete Case Lil’ Fry.

Other popular soft-plastics include a good variety of tiny curly-tail grubs and tiny crayfish imitations. Best way to present these if by suing a sensitive slip-bobber rig and fishing them suspended off the bottom in water 4-8′ deep.
