French River, Ontario – Fishing Report

Posted on June 1st, 2010

This past weekend my son and I joined our friends for our annual early season fishing trip. We fished Friday, Sat., Sunday and for a few hours on Monday AM. The fishing was excellent for our primary species ( Northern Pike ). The highlight of the trip was when Dave Oulton, hooked into a very nice Northern Pike. The fish measured 40 inches in length and we estimated the weigh to be approx. 20 lbs. The fish was caught on a # 1 silver spinner (without a leader), on freshly spooled Rapala Finesse Fishing Line. The fish fight was simply magical to watch and the fish was carefully released in good health after the taking of a quick photo. Congratulations Dave on a great catch! I had the pleasure of landing the fish using my old reliable Lucky Strike landing net, that was up to the job and then some!

Father & Son! – I’m proud to say that my son caught the 3rd largest Pike of the trip and as can be seen from his smile and expression in the following photo, he thoroughly enjoyed his time at the French! Thanks very much to our Uncle Mike for hosting us again this year. This annual trip is simply one of the highlights of our year! We look forward to returning later this summer to the French River for some smallmouth fishing!
