Florida Spadefish.
Posted on December 27th, 2018A certain fish has been capturing my attention on the shallow flats when I’m targeting Sheepshead using live Fiddler crabs and shrimp. That fish is the Spadefish that often shows up in groups when we fish around piles in water 4-8′ deep.
These fish are beautifully colored with wide stripes and large fins. They remind me a lot of Angelfish. They have small mouths with lots of teeth and steal your bait more often then getting hooked.
Using smaller #6 or #8 hooks is helpful and also using the least amount of weight so you can detect their very light strikes. I often use a sensitive float rig to catch them.
