Florida snapper & sheepshead.

[nggallery id=883]Howard Katz & I went out on Lemon Bay today and caught some pilchard & small pinfish using a castnet.  Then we went to Stump Pass and used a Sabiki rod (rod where the line goes inside the blank to keep the small baitfish hook rig from getting caught up on other lines).  We ended up catching some ince green-back baitfish and than headed our to a reef to see if we could catch some snapper, grouper or mackerel.  Surface conditions were excellent, but there where many baitfish schools all over the reef and it was hard to compete with them.  I did hook a couple of large barracuda in the 4-5′ range which I did not land.

We used  Rapala Shift rods and theRapala  Magnum Baha saltwate rod matched with with the Rapala spinning reel and loaded with Sufix 10 lb., 832 braid & 20 lb. Sufix fluorocarbon leader. I used our  Minn Kota Riptide electric and Minn Kota Talon anchoring system to locate and than hold where the mangrove snapper were feeding.

From there we travelled back to Lemon Bay and fish some bridge abutments for mangrove snapper.  We were blessed to catch our dinner of snapper and a nice sheepshead.  Tomorrow we are planning to go after bluefish again.  Main reason….they taste great!!
