The nice thing about fishing Florida through the seasons is that you can find a variety of fish from the bottom, right up to the surface. Hooking one bottom-fish after another is fun, but hooking-up to a Kingfish (King Mackerel), on the surface is amazing.
On this trip the girls had a blast landing these ideal eating size Kings.
These fish will strike trolled lures like saltwater Rapalas and really love to feed on a variety of silver, saltwater baitfish up to 8″ in length fished just on a hook/wire leader, right on the surface. They usually hit hard and make several runs before you can get them close enough to grab or gaff. They are strong fighters and are excellent eating grilled, deep-fried or smoked.
