Florida rod-breaking grouper.

Posted on December 13th, 2015

Grouper are one of our most popular fish to target when we fish miles off shore in the Gulf of Mexico, FL. They are challenging to locate and once you find an area with a “broken-bottom” that holds them, it can be tricky to hook-em and bring them up the first few feet to avoid having them take your line into sharp obstruction.

On a recent Gulf outing, Lek was using a medium-action spinning outfit and after battling a decent size grouper which had taken her into a hole, getting it out and fighting it, it snapped her rod.  She did well to still land the fish thanks in part to the Gamakatsu circle hook she was using…well done Lek!
