If you love casting to lily pads and stumps for bass you would love casting to mangrove shorelines in search of the feisty Redfish. The Redfish or Red Drum is an amazing fish to target when you fish the shallow, mangrove covered flats in southwest Florida.
While you can fish live or dead bait for them I usually work the Motorguide electric down mangrove shorelines and cast under every overhanging mangrove bush, in any pocket or of any point. If we locate one or more Redfish, I immediately stick the Power Pole to hold our position and we work the area over carefully. Usually if another Redfish is nearby it will not hesitate to strike. Recently I have been fishing 3-4″ twitch-baits that only swim about 1-2′ below the surface and they have worked great. Timing is one of the most important points to consider. Redfish stalk for their food when the tide is running.
