Florida “Bull-Reds” on the saltwater flats.

Posted on May 10th, 2017

If you love to target cast to cover for big, brawly fish that “smash” a lure and instinctively head right for the heavy cover, you really need to fish the southwest Florida saltwater flats and fish the mangroves from trophy Redfish.

I had a chance to fish with Walleye Wednesdays Scottie Martin and introduce him to this very demanding type of fishing. The key to target these prized fish on the flats is either when the tide is starting to flood, or mid-way through the “ebb-tide”.

The other key is to make casts as close to the mangroves as possible and expecting a take on every cast. Lunker City Shaker soft-plastic fished on a 1/4 oz. highead and Rapala Magnum spinning reel outfit did the ticket loaded with Sufix 832 braided line!
