Florida Amberjacks.
Posted on January 1st, 2018One of my favorite saltwater fish to tangle with in Florida’s Gulf waters is non-other than the Greater Amberjack. These fish often cruise and feed over man-made reefs and wrecks. They can also be caught just drifting or trolling in open water.
One of my favorite ways to fish for them is by using freshly caught baitfish like Treadfin Shad or Blue Runners. We fish these on a 8/0 baithook, 100lb. fluorocarbon leader and at least 30 lb. test main line. A stout rod and high capacity reel is a smart choice. Ruth Katz landed the biggest Amberjack on a recent trip and it took two of us to catch it and release it successfully.
