The glow sticks on the end of our rods were bouncing last night on the lower Grand River. My good friend Jody Rank and I hooked 6 and landed 5 nice Channel Catfish. The last 3 fish that we caught were BIG ones. All in the mid teens and up to 17lbs !!! We were bottom rigging with medium to heavy action Rapala spinning rods, 10 to 20lb test line with 1 to 1 1/2 oz slip sinkers and a large 3/0 hook, baited with fresh Sucker and Shad meat.
Fishing at night can be challenging, so make sure you are well lit. Head lamps, flashlights, lanterns etc. The fishing for these “river monsters” should continue to be hot for the next few weeks. So if you would like to book a guided trip, I would suggest doing so now because I am starting to book up! Or if you are more of a summer fisher person, come on up north and get spoiled at Red Pine Wilderness Lodge, while catching some trophy Walleye, Bass, Trout, and Pike ! Until then, I hope to see you on the water. Please be safe out there because our Rivers and Lakes are still cold.
