Our good friend Jeff Wood had his first trip out on Lake Erie, ON and reports the jumbo perch are healthy and feeding in the 50′ range.
Jeff caught his own emerald shiners from shore using a minnow net and fished them on a “pickerel-rig” with a 3/8 oz bell sinker and small #6 Octupus hook.
He was marking lots of perch and managed to land 35 fish before they shut down.
That was enough for a big fish fry that fed his whole family. Larger perch fillet nicely and a 3-6 fillets are usually a meal for one person.
