We had a great time filming a Canadian Sportfishing TV episode at Elk Lake Wilderness Resort, ON located on an expansion of the Montreal River. Fishing waters that are on-the-move can be challenging if you are not familiar where to locate walleye, but with Jeff, our guides help we were able to locate walleye on sand drop-offs and over open-water rocky structure.
When we arrived at the resort the surface water temperature was 67F. Overnight the surface water temps dropped to 64F and even cooler the next day. Fish in general don’t like significant changes in conditions, especially when there is a transition from warm to cold water. In our case we focused on fishing the 18-30′ drop-off and structure where we consistently marked fish, but has a slow time getting them to take. They were definitely less active due to the water temperature drop. Even with challenging conditions we were able to catch some nice walleye and enjoy an amazing pot-luck and fish fry with all the guests staying at the resort.
