Elk Island Lodge, God’s Lake, Manitoba – Day 2
Posted on June 30th, 2014Elk Island Lodge, God’s Lake, Manitoba – Day 2
We just finished our day-2 fish from Elk Island Lodge, God’s Lake, Manitoba where we targeted trophy pike.
Weather conditions turned for the worst and we faced heavy fog this morning which was blown off the lake by strong winds which increased throughout the day. We headed to our first pike spot and started casting the TriggerX Stump Hopper swim-bait.
To our surprise, both Aaron & I started hooking chunky walleye on our big soft-plastic.
The walleye were in 4-6’ of water and we are sure they were there feeding and taking advantage of the chop on the surface and overcast skies.
Barbara caught the day’s first pike and landed several nice-size fish. She mainly cast the Blue Fox Big Wake spoon.
This is one of Aaron’s trophy pike he ended up landing on the TriggerX Stump Hopper.
I landed several nice pike on the TriggerX soft-plastic and this trophy pike on the Rapala Husky Jerk #14in the new “smelt” color.
To finish things off we took our Rapala trolling rods loaded with Rapala counter reel & 30 lb. Sufix 832 braid, and fished the Rapala Tail Dancer #11 and the Jointed X-Rap in 30-50’ of water for trophy lake trout.
Tomorrow is our last full day at the lodge and we are scheduled to do a fly-out to God’s River, about 25 miles up-stream from Hudson Bay to target 20”+ brook trout!
