My wife Barbara, our pup Mulligan and I spend a few hours today driving around southwest Florida talking to pier anglers to see how the fishing has been from shore & off piers. Yesterday the strong winds and low temperatures kept anglers off the water and the high winds really made the Gulf waters turbid.
Our first stop was Placida, Fl where there is a public fishing pier where the old railway tracks lead to Boca Grande. Anglers reported tough fishing conditions there with just under size sheepshead being caught.
From there we went to the El Jobean, FL fishing pier which again is an old bridge that heads out across the Mayaka River. Again quite a few anglers were out enjoying the warmer and calmer weather, but fishing was slow. Barb and I took our rods and caught a few small mangrove snapper. Hopefully tomorrow the weather will stay consistent and we will be able to get out on Lemon Bay, Fl.
