I love pike fishing and one of the best times to target them is in early fall when they already start to feed heavily before water temperatures really drop.
Gabor Horvat who loves to fish reservoirs in southern Ontario has been doing well on good-size pike just casting and retrieving crankbaits along weedy shorelines. No need to fish slow with soft-plastic twitch-baits. Fall pike are aggressive and cranking minnow imitating crankbaits just of the deep side of weeds is one of the best ways to get them to strike.
The key is locating them. Look for weeds at the mouth of shallower bays and also larger weed masses along regular shorelines that come out further into deeper water.
