The Detroit River is a spring "walleye-factory". Now is one of the best times to intercept fresh-run walleye that have migrated from Lake Erie into the lower stretches of the Detroit River.

Greg Whitson reports. The walleye bite is on! The downriver bite has started. Pre-spawn walleye are being caught around the warm water discharge areas behind the steel mills off of current and structure breaks in 14-25′ water. Anglers are doing well fishing both minnows and plastics fished on 1/2 – 5/8 oz. Jigheads along the bottom. Lots of 10 lb+ females are being caught. Water is very clean on the Michigan, USA side. Now is a good time to take advantage of the fresh walleye moving in, good water conditions and good weather.
