Dark male steelhead, Niagara River.

Johnathan Bynkoski sent us this image that a friend of his caught in the Niagara River which to some people may look like a small salmon.

It’s definitely a male steelhead that has been in the river for a while and has taken on very dark colors. The black around the cheek and jaw could fool some anglers into thinking it might be a salmon, but if you inspected the inside of the mouth you would see it is white and indeed a steelhead!
