Crankin’ Walleye from the Welland River, ON.

Posted on June 20th, 2012

[nggallery id=738]After filming in northern Ontario for the last couple of weeks I was really curious if the walleye had moved onto structure areas on the Welland River, ON.  I went out for a couple of hours this afternoon with my pup Mulligan and cast the Rapala DT7F crankbait to structure breaks in 10-12′ of water.  My first fish turned out to be a Crappie, than in a matter of minute,  I was pleasantly surprised when I hooked my first walleye,  it measured out around 25″.

I used the Rapala Concept Ti rod with the Rapala Shift spinning reel and Sufix 10 lb. test 832 braid.  The outfit is fantastic for casting crankbaits.  I had a tough time taking photos on my own, but I think you will get the gist of my outing.

I hope to do a TV show on crankin’ walleye over shallow structure and in turbid waters next week.
