My guest Dave Neil and I braved winds & rain casting crankbaits yesterday and managed to land about 15-bass and one trophy pike using Storm and Rapala crankbaits around open-water weeds ranging in depth form 10-20′ of water. The water was clear, but it was tough for us to spot the thicker weedbeds and to stay on top of them due to strong winds and eventually rain. Our plan was to fish TriggerX soft-baits, but plans quickly changed due to conditions and we decided to fish the new Storm Arashi and Rapala Dives To 7 Flat cranbaits in and around the same weeds. The pike above could not resist the silver/black DT7F. Even in adverse weather we shot some great TV segments giving viewers tips on fishing in adverse weather and choosing the right gear/lures.
You can see the remote to the Minn Kota Terrova hanging below the pike, having a reliable electric motor with the “spot-lock” feature really helped us hold near the weeds which we marked with our Humminbird 1100 series sonar, even in strong winds.
