Conservation Reservoir Pike.

Posted on July 7th, 2009

Gabor Horvat reports: I had opportunities  to get out 3 times to reservoirs at conservation areas.

The pike fishing was  pretty good. The weedline were not established until the beginning of June. The weather turned on very nice and the weeds which helped to keep the pike feeding aggressively around the weeds.  The biggest pike I measured was 39″ long which is a nice size for a conservation area.

Most of the time I was looking for pike between 8-10 feet. The clarity of the water was very good so I was able to follow the weed line and the type of weed I was looking for.  I did well using a spinnerbait.   I added a plastic fish on it and a trailer hook.  I noticed that the pike were striking more consistently when I cast and retrieve faster. If I slowed down, the clear water gave higher visibility and they were only following the lure.
